Price

I bought my Gold's Gym Ab Wheel from Walmart for only $8. I’ve linked the product’s Amazon page so you can see current pricing, but if you can buy one in person, I’d do that to skip the shipping and dealing with third party sellers online. For the price, it's in impulse buy territory. So how is the build quality for the price?

Build Quality

It's obvious out the box this is an inexpensive product. The build quality is just passable. The device has two handles; technically it’s one handle between two wheels. It makes a bit of a squeak when you use it. The grips feel decent, but they start slowly tearing pretty early. Said tearing from the grips results in little black specs coming off the product. This is noticeable on carpet.

The overall feel of the Ab Wheel is pretty wobbly which on the surface is just bad, but it actually makes you work even harder to hold it properly which I guess can be a good thing too. But what about the most important question - Does this thing work?

Effectiveness

Can the exercises you do with an Ab Roller give you a six pack? Hell yes.

To be clear, you really need to tick two boxes to get visible abs and this will help you tick one of them. To get a six pack or 4 pack or 8 pack, depending on your genetics, you meet two criteria:
1) your rectus abdominus muscles need to be big enough to protrude through your skin AND
2) your body fat in front of your abs needs to be low enough

The ab roller helps tick the first box very well. It doubles as a surprisingly good for an arm workout. The first time I used this, I was so sore I thought I tore something. My lower abs hurt to even get up and move. These are legit. There are three main variants of exercises you can do with this thing. Rollouts on your knees. Roll outs to both sides on your knees, and standing ab roll outs.

The ab wheel is such an intriguing device because even after over a year of having it and making steady improvements, I still can't get a completely full extension. Still working on that, but I developed a six pack before then, so I can't complain, it gets the job done.

Verdict

Overall I give the Gold's Gym Ab Wheel a 9/10. The build quality is the only thing that really holds it back, but for the price, I can't really be too hard on it. I’ve also reviewed the Iron Gym Profit Pull Up Bar (my review) which I use in conjunction with this to help develop my core muscles.
